BZL Consulting

Dashboards and automated reporting, without the full-time analyst.

I turn scattered spreadsheets and disconnected tools into clear dashboards and reports, sized and priced for small and mid-sized businesses.

See it in action

Services

In plain terms, here's what this can actually do for your business.

See your numbers in one place

Your sales, bookings, or customer info probably lives in two or three different apps right now. This pulls it into one simple screen you check anytime.

  • Combine your point-of-sale, online store, and booking system into one dashboard
  • See today's numbers without opening five different tabs
  • Works on your phone or computer, updates on its own

Stop doing the same busywork every week

If someone on your team copies numbers between spreadsheets or rebuilds the same report every Monday, that work can run itself instead.

  • Automatic weekly or monthly reports sent straight to your inbox
  • No more manual copy-pasting between systems
  • Get an alert when something needs attention, like low stock

Find out what's actually making you money

Most business owners have a gut feeling about what's working. This replaces the guessing with a real answer, backed by your own numbers.

  • Which products, services, or clients are actually profitable
  • Which customers are likely to stop coming back, before they leave
  • A plain-English explanation of why, not just a number with no context

Know what's coming next month

Instead of ordering stock or scheduling staff based on a hunch, see a realistic projection, shown as a range, not a false guarantee.

  • A projection of next month's sales or demand
  • Helps with ordering stock or planning staffing ahead of time
  • Shown as a likely range, not one overconfident number

Pricing

Every project gets a fixed quote before anything starts, no open-ended hourly billing.

Scope and cost depend on how many data sources are involved and how much cleanup is needed, which is exactly what the first call is for. You'll get a clear, fixed number before any work begins, never an open-ended hourly bill.

Example
(illustrative)

A boutique selling through a storefront, Shopify, and Instagram DMs had three separate spreadsheets and no single answer to simple questions, which category actually made money, which items were about to sell out. Pulling the three sources into one dashboard turned a monthly guessing exercise into a five-minute morning check: $18,420 in revenue, 612 units sold, and 7 items flagged before they ran out instead of after.

This is an illustrative example, not an actual client, built to show the kind of problem this solves. The live version is in Featured Work below.

Featured work

Sample work built to show the approach, not client deliverables.

Interactive demo

Small business operations dashboard

The same underlying method applied across retail, cafe, and service business examples, each with its own numbers and its own blind spots. Open it and switch between industries to see how it adapts.

Interactive demo

Churn risk, explained

A classification model scores each customer's risk, then shows exactly which factors drove that score, real explainability, not a black box number.

Interactive demo

Revenue forecast, explained

A next-month revenue projection shown with a confidence range instead of one overconfident number, and why that range changes by business.

Why BZL

This comes from years of production ML rigor, not prototypes that only work in a demo. It's solo by design, the person who understands your data is the person who builds your dashboard, no hand-offs in between. Explainability is an actual specialty here, not an afterthought, and the work runs equally in English and French.

Methods like SHAP and LIME are used to show why a model says what it says, not just what it says.

Process

01

A look at what you actually have, and what shape it's in.

03

Build

Checked against your real numbers before anything goes live.

04

Handoff

Something you can run yourself, plus a plan if things change.

Common questions

Is my data safe?

Yes. Data is stored securely, only accessed to do the work, and deleted within 30 days of the project ending unless you ask for it sooner. This is written into every contract, not just a verbal promise.

How long does a project take?

A first dashboard usually takes two to four weeks from the data review to handoff, depending on how many sources are involved. Automation projects vary more, the timeline is agreed before work starts.

What if my data is messy or spread across different tools?

That's the normal starting point, not a dealbreaker. Spreadsheets, exports, whatever you already have is enough to begin with.

Do I need a long-term contract?

No. Work is scoped project by project. There's no retainer or ongoing commitment required.

What tools do you use?

Whatever fits the client, Looker Studio, Power BI, or a straightforward Excel workbook, depending on what you need and what you're already using.

About

I'm a data scientist based in Ottawa, with years spent building production machine learning systems that had to be accurate, explainable, and reliable at scale before they went anywhere near a real decision. BZL Consulting brings that same rigor to a different scale: the kind of business that needs clear numbers and working tools, not a research paper.
